Purpose of this blog

To discuss general data management and architecture issues – see the DAMA’s functional framework for the scope of data management.

The first set of blogs will look at data development practices.

A database testing framework will be introduced.

This can be downloaded and used to unit test SQL databases.

I hope to show how techiques, such as test driven development (TDD), taken from the wider development community can be used when developing/refactoring SQL databases.

Why start with database development?

Data development techniques/tools come a very poor second compared to what is now available to software development community.

There is very little discussion in this space.

Try it.  Search for things such as ‘TDD’ ‘unit testing’

Now do the same for any database development related topic. There is very little out there in comparison.

IMHO this has an impact on how data development is viewed within projects teams.
